A Visit to My Farm.

I spent a lot of the day working on the Visa process for Phai’s son and daughter in law. The agency we hired has been super responsive. We filled out all the worksheets on Saturday. Since I do not have a printer/scanner I rely on my iPad. The owner of the agency didn’t think I could use an iPad to get the forms to him. He has had people try in the past but all they did was take a picture of the worksheets and send him a jpg image. I used a program from the App store called “Scanner”. It captures the image in the app, improves the image and turns it into a PDF file. It works great, is easy to use and in short order I had sent him 9 pages of work sheets for each of the two people. Within twelve minutes of me emailing them to him on a Saturday he responded that they look great and he forwarded them to his office in Bangkok for them to work on. They called yesterday (Monday) to clarify a couple things and by today (Tuesday) they sent me a draft of the formal applications to review. It took a while because I had to go through line by line and get help from the family regarding the items in Thai.

So then this afternoon I started working on photos and putting together a video to post to my blog when Phai came in and said “We are going to your farm, do you want to come?” Well, I never turn down a chance to visit my farm so I did not get the video finished. It can wait until tomorrow. I was also going to put together an album for the site of the additional photos I took yesterday but that will wait also.

Phai and Ning are at the market picking up my dinner along with supplies for the restaurant. So here are a few shots I took today. I will post them and it will be time to eat.

A truck went by so Phai and her sister and Ning went out and bought two large bags of Rambutan. It is a great fruit and the only place I have seen it in the U.S. is in Asian markets. Because they have to import it to the U.S. it is not only expensive it is not fresh. It costs very little here and is so good.

When we got to the farm it looked like a party. These guys were all fishing. I found out later that Phai’s brother in law who works my farm had turned them down (he wants the fish himself) and while he was gone they came anyway. We may have to find a way to put a gate across the entrance to discourage it.

Some of our rice paddies look pretty good. We are having to irrigate from the river and the river is very low. We use pumps to lift the water from the river into the paddies and hope for rain. If enough rain comes they will open the dam upstream and the river will be flowing again.

This is Phai’s brother in law monitoring the irrigation process. I took video but it will have to wait until tomorrow.

He borrowed this boat and uses it to prop up the pipes that bring the water up from the river.
