Phai got home at 4 am this morning. I rolled over, got kissed and then she crashed. She said she got almost no sleep on the bus. I woke up about an hour before she did but even after two all night bus rides and all day in Bangkok she was up by 7am and going strong all day. My new granddaughter Mobuy was here for a long time today and that always energizes Phai to have her new granddaughter around. There isn’t much to report on today so you will have to look at a couple of photos of Mobuy. She is getting more alert but still loves her sleep.
It was a beautiful sunny day today up until 4:00 pm when the clouds moved in and the rain started. After about an 1 ½ hours of heavy rain son in law got a phone call from his father that his truck slid in the mud at my farm and he is stuck. According to Phai he almost ended up in the rice paddy closest to the shelter at the entrance to the farm. The guys from here are headed out in another truck and by motorbike to rescue him. Luckily it has stopped raining but I understand the road to my farm is really bad. I didn’t volunteer to help because with the language gap I sometimes get in the way and driving to the farm on that slippery mud scares the heck out of me.
So mostly it was just a enjoyable day around the house. I Did have my soup for lunch which tasted almost as good as my peanut butter and jelly sandwich I made for my dinner last night. Just kidding, the soup was better. Ning is bringing me fried chicken from the market for dinner. We have decided that we will not make anymore attempts at tourist visas until at least a year from now. Our next trip will probably be next week to Mukdahan and I am really looking forward to it. The family has to get a few things settled her before I can book the hotel. Ning will close the restaurant and she, her husband and Fa Mai, my five year old granddaughter, will come to Mukdahan also. Ning has never stayed in a hotel before so this should be a fun trip for her. I was just reading that the Mekong river is Mukdahan is very close to flood level so we will have to watch the weather. It should make for some good photography with the river so high. I will go across the freedom bridge to Laos to get a new visa stamp in my passport. My visa only lets me stay 90 days at a time and I have to leave the country and then come back in. Basically all I have to do is get stamped out of Thailand, get stamped into Laos and then turn right around and reverse the procedure. It is possible we will all go and and spend a few hours in Savannakhet Laos. Even though it is the second largest city in Laos there is really very little there. There is a casino not too far from the bridge that Thais love to go to since gambling is illegal in Thailand.
