Went into Na Klang to find out about getting the new TV repaired or replaced.

The Thai people have an amazing amount of patience to put up with things that drive me crazy. I bought the family that new 42” LED TV. While Phai and I were in Chiang Rai it started acting up with flickering on the screen about every ten seconds. They showed it to me on August 1st. Ning wanted me to switch out the box that links to the dish on the roof. I tested the TV and found out that it does the same thing no matter what input is selected. I thought I had explained it well enough but about an hour later she was talking to Fa Sai’s husband and he came over and started to fool with the box from the dish. I demonstrated to him that it is not the box that is the problem. Luckily, he was smart enough to understand and explain it to Ning. I have to admit it drives me a little crazy when they don’t accept my word for things like that. I was an electronics technician in the Air Force and I once built my own TV. So I do my best to chalk it up to language differences rather than lack of confidence in me. So any way, that was August 1st. Finally a week later they called the store and the store said to put it back in the box and bring it in. I have asked several times when we are going to do that but I do not get an answer or I am told “tomorrow” but tomorrow never comes. Meanwhile they watch this flickering TV for hours everyday. Finally today Phai said they are going to the store where we bought the TV to talk to them. I told her I want to go because I took a video with my iPhone that shows what the TV is doing. We went to the branch of the store that is much closer to us, I showed them the video. They got on the phone with the main store. I walked down to Tesco Lotus while that was going on and bought some yogurt. When I came back they were ready to go home. I asked Phai what the resolution was and she said the store would send someone out to fix it.

I know that you do not “fix” these new TV’s so I was concerned but figured it was up to them to deal with it. I had my soup for lunch and then laid down to take a nap. When I woke up Phai said they had already brought and hooked up a loaner TV while they worked on ours. So no more flickering. I will be curious to see how long it takes to either get our TV back in working order or a replacement. The loaner is not the same brand and is 2” smaller. It only took 17 days of the flickering driving me crazy before they took action. Life is a slower pace here on all levels. I am not even sure if there is a Thai word for urgency.

Phai checked the bird nest that had fallen and unfortunately all but one of the babies was dead and that one was so newly hatched that without the mother it will die. Phai was so sweet and put some water on its beak and held it in her had so at least it had some love while it was alive. Photo below.

She also asked me to review the security cameras because Fa Sai thought one of the customers may not have paid for her take out order of soup. The customer said she did and left. I went back and looked and the resolution is so good I was able to show that she had the money in her hand as she walked over to get her order and then show Fa Sai putting it in the money bucket. So not only are security cameras good for catching bad things, they can also help protect honest people.

Mobuy has been here most of the day so Phai is getting her baby fix.

Last night the family had dinner on the floor where they cook their own food on an electric hibachi. If it was easier for me to sit on the floor I would have joined them but I had eaten a large salad earlier not knowing they were going to do that. That is one of the issues when you do not know the language, you do not know what is going to happen until it does because you do not understand the conversations leading up to the event.

Family dinner “table”. The only time Thais eat with chopsticks is for this type of meal and for noodle soup. It was dark when I took this photo and rather than use a flash I used an app called “NightCam”. It does an amazing job of shooting photos in low light.

You can see that this little newborn is not going to make it. That is Phai’s hand and the water on her finger is from putting some in the babies beak.

Mobuy is getting bigger every time I see her.

For the first time today I think she is focusing on my face. She is staying awake a lot more now but still very little crying.
