Day 7

Up at 5:30 AM again today. Of course when you are sound asleep by 9:00 PM it isn't so hard to do. I finally feel like I have made the transition and adjusted. Feels like I am home. It is so pleasant at that time of morning. Phai I walk over to the restaurant and get things lined up for the day, sweep the area, wipe down the tables, etc.

I usually start my day with a bowl of Frosted Flakes (can't find Honey Nut Cheerios here) and some orange juice. Then Ning (Phai's daughter) walks over about 6 or 6:30 and makes a pot of great coffee and we get the day under way. By about noon the temperature has risen substantially. Phai and I are discussing installing a big fan over the main the section of the restaurant to help keep the customers cool and the flies at bay. This year we have seen very few bugs. I think it is because of the lack of rain. I am not complaining. Have killed a couple of vary large spiders (one about a foot from my head on the wall above the bed). It was about 2 inches across and spiders are not my favorite thing but they don't seem very aggressive. Phai takes care of them for me. I have started a very intensive on line Thai language course and am hoping to surprise Phai with what I am learning.

We currently do not have any transportation because Phai's Son in Law drove his parents to their home about 5 hours from here and will be gone a few days. During Sonkgran many Thais travel to their home villages. That is the hardest thing for me because I cannot get out to explore on my own. Of course when we move here permanently we will buy a car and at least one motorcycle. Phai worries about me riding a motorcycle here because of the dangers but I will win her over.

Phai is having some serious tree cutting done on our property. Here is the one they cut yesterday. They dropped it right on a small storage shed and it sounded like an explosion when that tin roof collapsed. Notice the bare feet while using the chain saw. I am surprised there are not more injuries here.

Tree Cutting

My favorite saying when I am here is "Go With The Flow". It would be hard to survive here if I didn't have that attitude. About 4:30 Phai said I am going to the market do you want to come. I said sure, figuring I would climb on the back of the motorcycle. Then she and the kids and her sisters starting walking down the street. I asked about the market and she said they have on set up just outside the Temple so I ran back and grabbed my camera. So here are a couple of photos of the "market".
