More rain, lots of shopping and more progress on house.

The company that is doing the doors, windows, ceiling, etc. did not show today so Phai and I used the day for shopping while our wall builders worked on the back room. We went to the big new hardware store and bought a new sink (the one the son in law had was ugly) and faucet and connection kit. We also bought a  toilet paper holder to mount on the wall and looked at things like shower curtains (Phai wanted the only one they did not have in stock). We then went to another store in Nong Bua Lamphu and bought more mortar for the walls of the back room so they will look just like the house walls.

By now I was starving so we stopped at home (where it was poring rain) and I had my bowl of Ning's soup, checked the progress on our back room and then we went shopping again. Went to  supply shop in Na Klang and bought two doors, a door frame kit, and a Thai toilet for the Thai bathroom. It had stopped raining for a little while so we also stopped at Tesco Lotus Express to get some cash from the ATM and for some cereal, milk, yogurt and other basic supplies. I treated my self to a chocolate bar. It is 6:00 pm now and the bathroom walls are done as is a lot of the back wall. They put the seven glass blocks in the wall of bathroom and they look great and let in a lot of light. Even though it is raining the skylight and glass blocks allow the bathroom to be fairly bright. I am guessing we will not turn on the lights very often during the day. I am excited about the size of the bathroom. It is about 14 ½ X 6 ½  feet. We will have a nice large shower and lots of room for some type of cabinets for towels and other bathroom goodies. My son in law just measured and marked the walls for the shower, toilet and sink. It is really going to be a nice bathroom, maybe not by American standards but by Isaan standards I am excited about it. In fact, I am including photos of our current shower and toilet (separate rooms next to each other) so you can see what we currently use. The water heater quit working after the first couple weeks so we take cold showers. That wasn't so bad during the hot weather but it is cooler now. If it is a sunny day the water is between lukewarm and cool. If it is raining or overcast the water is cold. Nothing like a cold shower at night to wake you up to go to sleep and shaving with cold water takes getting used to. I am looking forward to hot water again in the new bathroom.

If the company doing the interior is not here tomorrow morning we will check with them to find out what is going on. It can't be the rain because that doesn't affect what they are working on.

A correction on my post of two days ago. I mention a $12 dollar investment for a small bottle of whiskey and two bowls of soup for the guys doing the interior of the house. I miscalculated. The whisky was 60 Baht and each bowl of soup 30 Baht for a total of 120 baht which is about $4.00.

When the walls get mortared and painted the bathroom will look much better. The shower will be entire area across the back. Not sure yet how they will fill the gaps between the walls and the roof.

Another day or two and all the walls should be up.

Our current shower. That is an electric on demand hot water heater that no longer works. Our supplies sit on the ledge of a large holding tank. Water service from the city used to be hit and miss so we would keep that full and pour water over our heads if the city water stopped. That is not a problem anymore. There is no sink so I have a little hanging mirror and use a small bucket I fill with cold water to shave with.

Our current commode and squirter hose. Notice the water holding tank for flossing if no city water. We have it filled and have not had to use it in three months we have been here. I told them no fish tiles in our new bathroom. These were chosen by our granddaughter when she was 11 years old. Also in the new bathroom our toilet will not be elevated on a platform like this one.
